Laser Processing of Ni-Based Superalloy Surfaces Susceptible to Stress Concentration

Reliable and resilient constructions are basic for ensuring the safety of various structures. The superalloys used as constructive materials due to their superb mechanical properties endurance. However, even these can have certain areas where stress concentration is higher than expected, such drilling holes, which common in structures that need additional enhancement. Surface laser modifications surrounding holes drilled Nimonic 263 sheets done by pulsed picosecond nanosecond Nd:YAG irradiations with pulse durations 170 ps ≤8 ns, respectively. Following surface treatment, effectiveness enhancement was analyzed microhardness test deformation test. results show values decreased 25−40 percent, showing improvement resilience deformation. Vickers indicate an microhardness. dimensions microcracks untreated material comparison laser-treated material.
